UOB Art Academy and Hong Kong Palace Museum jointly present the Art in Ink Festival which takes place at the Palace Academy on 16 – 31 December 2023. The Festival underlines the dynamism and breadth of Chinese ink art. It serves as a platform to nurture local artistic talents and inspire the study and appreciation of Chinese art and culture, enabling visitors to reinterpret the beauty of contemporary Chinese ink art.

2023 UOB Art in Ink Awards Winners' Showcase

Since its debut in 2017, the UOB Art in Ink Awards is committed to promoting and fostering Chinese ink art as a unique art form and expression of Chinese culture. The Awards also inspires the innovative spirit of the medium and showcases the outstanding achievements of local artistic talents.

Presented as part of the UOB Art Collection, the 2023 UOB Art in Ink Awards Winners' Showcase features 20 winning artworks from the abstract and landscape/figurative genres.

InkFlow Theatre Immersive Animated Ink Screening

Visitors can enjoy the InkFlow Theatre immersive ink animation at the auditorium to experience the exciting visual experience brought by ink art.

The screening features the immersive ink animation of the twenty winning artworks of the 2023 UOB Art in Ink Awards at the Auditorium of the Palace Academy. The five-minute animation will be presented with immersive 3D-mapping technology, bringing you into each of the artworks and navigating you through different artistic styles and creative inspirations.

Inkfinity Encounter Interactive Ink Experience Zone

Indulge yourself at the Inkfinity Encounter Interactive Ink Experience Zone at the Magnus Hall, which presents three sets of interactive installations, including the new media interactive art installation The Book of Drops by Chris Cheung (h0mh1m), The Sea of the (Un)titled, an interactive digital installation inspired by the winning artworks of the 2023 UOB Art in Ink Awards, as well as the limited edition of the Art in Ink leisure wearables by local fashion designer Hidy Ng with a virtual fitting room using AR technology. The interactive zone invites visitors to experience Chinese ink art from various perspectives and understand the connection between Chinese ink and our daily lives through art and tech.

The Festival invited distinguished artists lead the workshops, including Chinese Traditional Gongbi Painting in Blue-and-white Porcelain Style on Gold Foil Paper by Dr Chui Pui-Chee, Experimental Ink Workshop by Rebecca Hon, Ink Transcription Workshop by Christine Lee, Ink Flow Painting Workshop by Lee Yee Mei, Abstract Ink Art Workshop by Tony Ng, The Ink of Mind: Learning Grandmaster in Wanders and The Mind of Ink: Learning Innocence with your Inner Child by Gessena Wong, Little Novelty in Gongbi Painting, Workshop on Inking a Scenery with Grotesque Stone, The Poetry of Snow Workshop, Blue-and-Green Landscape Workshop by Yau Wing Fung and Modern Chinese Landscape Workshop by Simon Yung.

InkSpectacle Pop-Up Music Performance

Alluring the audience with orchestral performances, InkSpectacle Pop-up Music Performance features popular songs that are inspired by the winning artworks of the 2023 UOB Art in Ink Awards. The performances will be carried out by the undergraduates of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts at the foyer of Palace Academy.

The UOB Art Academy was established by UOB in Hong Kong in 2015 with an aim of making art more accessible, nurturing local artistic talents and rejuvenating cultural heritage. As an extension of UOB Group's corporate social responsibility initiatives, the Academy achieves its goals through various channels including the UOB Art in Ink Awards, art outreach programmes, workshops and collaborations within the local community.

Since its introduction in 2017, the UOB Art in Ink Awards is committed to promoting and fostering Chinese ink art as a unique art form and a representation of Chinese culture. The Awards not only encourages and inspires the innovation within the medium but also celebrates the outstanding achievements of local artistic talents. In 2023, the Awards was extended to mainland China as a campus edition.

As the leading patron of the art in Asia, UOB firmly believes that art plays a vital role in enriching lives and strengthening societal bonds within communities. Since the 1970s, UOB has actively supported the art communities through the acquisition of paintings. Today, the UOB Art Collection comprises more than 2,600 artworks primarily showcasing paintings from established and emerging Southeast Asian artists. Over that past four decades, UOB has been championing Southeast Asian art and artists in the region, notably through its flagship regional art programme, the UOB Painting of the Year (POY) competition.

The Hong Kong Palace Museum aspires to become a leading cultural institution committed to the study and appreciation of Chinese art and culture, while advancing dialogue among world civilisations. The Hong Kong Palace Museum is a collaborative project between the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and the Palace Museum, which is funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust with a donation of HK$3.5 billion for its establishment, as well as some of the annual exhibitions and education programmes in 2023–2031.
